Fun Kids, the national children’s radio station has today, Monday 12th August, launched a new children’s podcast network. The network will bring together all of Fun Kids’ podcasts alongside shows from other providers including the popular Storynory podcast and the brand new The Week Junior Show from Dennis Publishing’s The Week Junior.
The Week Junior Show is hosted by Fun Kids presenter Bex and stars the editorial team from the award-winning children’s magazine. The new weekly show is created for curious 8-to-14 year-olds and their families, exploring some of the week’s most interesting news stories and helping children to make sense of their world.
Anna Bassi, Editor-in-Chief of The Week Junior says: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Fun Kids to launch The Week Junior Show. Our goal is to bring the magazine to life and give listeners a glimpse behind the scenes. We hope they will enjoy hearing the team talk about some of the week’s hot topics and that they’ll discover lots of new and interesting information as they do. We pride ourselves on explaining the news in a way that is engaging and accessible so it’s really exciting to be taking this off the page and out to a new audience.”
Also joining the podcast network is popular children’s story podcast Storynory. Storynory has been entertaining children since 2005 and has thousands of fans all over the world.
Storynory Managing Director Hugh Fraser says: “Storynory is a pioneer of kids podcasting – we’ve been around since 2005. Kids audio and podcasting is finally going mainstream and provides a great alternative to staring transfixed at a screen. We think that Fun Kids can be a powerhouse of high quality family friendly content in the podcasting sphere and we are delighted to team up with them.”
These podcasts join over 50 popular Fun Kids shows including the Fun Kids Science Weekly and the Fun Kids Book Club.
Station Manager of Fun Kids, Matt Deegan: “Podcasts are becoming a more and more important part of families lives, we’ve created a network that will cross-promote each other’s shows and offer a brand-safe environment for advertisers to reach a family audience”.
At launch the Fun Kids Podcast Network already generates over half a million downloads each month, a number expected to grow as they establish and launch new shows.
In Apple Podcasts, the Fun Kids Science Weekly is currently at the top of the Education for Kids chart and Storynory is currently at the top of Stories for Kids.
Joining Fun Kids to lead the commercial development of the radio station, its media products and the new podcast network network is Samantha Howard. Sam joins from the River Group where she was the Advertising Director for Holland and Barrett’s media titles and has worked on parenting titles for Bauer and Chelsea Magazines.
The Podcast Network is also the second recent announcement from Fun Kids, after the launch of Fun Kids Junior – its pre-school radio station on July 22nd.
